We are currently recruiting for the position of Sr. Netcome Engineer to be located at our corporate facility in San Antonio or in Livonia, MI.
Sr. Leader of Data Network administration. Expert in data network analysis, design or engineering. Leads complex projects requiring additional specialized technical knowledge. Makes well-thought out decisions on complex networking issues. Coordinates with technical and nontechnical employees and clients to determine requirements. Ensures that network improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency. Establishes and communicates common goal and direction for team. Acts as a resource for direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff. Monitors project schedules and costs. Leads in the evaluation of supplier proposals.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
A. Provides guidance and assistance with day-to-day support of current and future wide area Data networks in mentoring role with less senior Netcom employees to ensure the proper management of hardware and software resources to maintain Data (LAN and WAN) network reliability. Leads effort to install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade Data networking hardware and software as required. Performs or coordinates maintenance where necessary. Establishes and maintains host to host, contact center, corporate area (MAN) and plant connectivity. Establishes and maintains ISDN and analog dial back and other redundant networks. Coordinates and leads the installation of voice and data communications circuits. Order, configure, install and troubleshoot employeed data communications equipment. Uses voice and network management system tools to manage Harland Clarke’s Data (LAN/WAN) environments. 25%
B. Plans and leads team to monitor Data network hardware, software, circuits and service utilization and monitor performance, capacity, traffic utilization, hardware functionality, and operating system operation. Uses voice and network management systems tools to monitor Harland Clarke’s Data (LAN/WAN) environments. Designs and implements proactive enhancements as indicated by performance measurements. 25%
C. Lead the implementation of complex and major projects related to Data networks. Lead special projects as directed involving new Data (LAN and WAN) network development and performance. Perform miscellaneous network related projects as required. 20%
D. Provide customer assistance, incident and problem resolution related to Data (LAN and WAN) network issues. Utilize tools to isolate and, if possible, resolve incidents and problems that occur in the Voice or Data networks. 15%
E. Assist in designing and maintaining Harland Harland Clarke’s enterprise wide network management system, both voice and data. Research technology developments and recommend improvements that lead to increased productivity, revenue enhancement and/or cost savings. Assist internal and external customers in defining their requirements. Provide guidance to customers regarding IS policies, procedures and standards. 10%
F. Documents new processes and procedures including assisting in evaluation and recommendation of operational and efficiency improvements. Update documentation as adds, moves and changes occur throughout the network. Ensures standards and procedures are followed and assure that the documentation is kept current. Trains and mentors Network Analysts, Sr Network Analysts and System Administrators on network standards and principles. 5%

Experience / Skills / Abilities Required
8 plus years of experience in voice and/or data networking. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.
– Must have knowledge of Frame Relay, HDLC and ISDN
– Knowledge of WAN technology such as QOS and MPLS preferred
– Knowledge of Routing Protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, RIP, OSPF, and PBR a plus
– Knowledge of Storage Area Network technology (such as Nortel WSM)
– Knowledge of Checkpoint firewalls
– Knowledge of VoIP preferred
– Knowledge of Wireless protocols and devices a plus
– Cisco CCNA certification
– Cisco CCSP certification, CISCO CCNP certification
– Experience or thorough knowledge of one or more of the following WAN technologies such as ATM, frame relay, ISDN, HDLC or SNA interneworking is necessary.
– Project management experience required
